Lina Savard of Southbury died on March 20, 2024. She was the widow of Alfred Savard, to whom she was married for 49 years.
Mrs. Savard was born May 20, 1929 in Celenza, Foggia, Italy. Daughter of the late Pasquale and Maria (Tommasone) Laccone. She retired from Amos' Bakery in Heritage Village where she worked for twelve years.
During their marriage, the Savards lived in Taiwan, Mainland China, Borneo, Norway, Germany, Argentina and Scotland, and visited all points in between for leisure. They also lived in seven different US states before settling in Southbury.
She was a communicant at Sacred Heart Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, church greeter, and was a member of the Columbiettes for many years. She was also a part of the Social Activities Committee, the Hospitality Committee, and Extend a Hand Committee. She was a member of the Parish Council for three years and organized the "Coffee And" once a month. She served as Eucharistic Minister to local nursing homes and the home bound.
She enjoyed knitting and was a member of the Prayer Shawl Committee. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening and ballroom dancing. She was the recipient of the St. Joseph's Medal of Appreciation from the Archdiocese of Hartford for her commitment and volunteer work at Sacred Heart Church.
She leaves a son, Perry Savard, of Hutto, TX; three sisters: Rose Simonelli, Angelina Labiana, both of Italy, and Chiarina Colucci of Waterbury; two grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was predeceased by her son, Dean Savard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Msgr. Joseph Donnelly on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Southbury. A viewing will be held in the church's Daily Chapel prior to the Mass from 10:00 - 10:45 AM. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Southbury. The Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury has been entrusted with the arrangements.
